10 held for dumping Delhi waste in Ggm
Gurugram, Oct. 6 -- Garbage from Delhi is allegedly being brought across the border and illegally dumped in Gurugram even as the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has intensified field monitoring to tackle persistent sanitation problems across the city.
Gurugram police arrested 10 people on Sunday evening and seized seven vehicles, including canters and tractor-trolleys, in a crackdown on a network allegedly transporting garbage from Delhi into the city.
Four cases have been registered - two at Bajghera police station and one each at Udyog Vihar and Rajendra Park police stations. Police said they are yet to establish where in Delhi the waste originated, but a preliminary investigation found that it was being brought into Gurugram in commercial vehicles before plastic was separated and transported elsewhere.
Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said investigators are trying to establish the entire chain, including those arranging the transportation and the routes used. "We are examining the role of vehicle owners, operators and others involved in segregation and further transportation," he said....
