1 tigress dead, another released in Corbett after injury treatment
Haldwani, April 13 -- The state forest department has released a tigress back into the wild after providing medical treatment in the Corbett landscape, officials said on Sunday.
However, another tigress that was rescued in an injured condition about 15 days ago died during treatment, and its cremation was carried out after a post-mortem examination.
Divisional Forest Officer of Terai West Forest Division, Prakash Chandra Arya, said tourists visiting the Fato zone spotted the injured tigress and alerted authorities.
"Tourists visiting the Fato zone noticed a tigress in an injured condition and took photographs. Severe injury marks were visible around the tigress's neck. The tourists immediately informed the forest department," said Prakash Chandra Arya, Divisional Forest Officer of Terai West Forest Division.
Following the information, the forest department launched a rescue operation to provide medical aid to the animal.
"On Friday, a team of veterinarians tranquilised and captured the tigress near a waterhole in the Fato forest complex. The animal was treated on the spot," Arya said. htc...
