Chandigarh, Aug. 12 -- The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Chandigarh has gathered pace, with 1,38,070 voters flagged for scrutiny and 93,193 (67%) already being served notices, officials said on Tuesday. Over 20,000 cases have already been resolved, officials added. As part of the revision process, booth-level officers (BLOs) are conducting field verification and serving notices to electors whose details require confirmation. Voters receiving such notices have been asked to submit relevant documents to the assistant electoral registration officer (AERO) concerned within the stipulated time for timely disposal of their cases. The exercise, being carried out by the election department in line with directions of the Election Commission of India, aims to ensure accuracy and completeness of the electoral rolls by removing duplicate, ineligible or deceased entries while including all eligible voters. Data shared by the department shows that 28,134 cases have been heard by AEROs, of which 20,343 have been resolved following submission of documents. Another 7,791 cases remain under scrutiny. Officials said 44,877 notices are yet to be issued and are currently being generated. The department has urged residents to cooperate with the verification exercise to ensure their names remain on the electoral rolls. "Timely submission of documents will help protect voting rights and ensure that no eligible elector is left out," an official said.
