Imphal, Oct. 20 -- A 24-year-old man died of pellet injuries and three others were critically injured after a brawl, reportedly between Meitei and Muslim community members, during a musical concert in Thoubal district of Manipur, police said on Monday.
In a separate incident, three CRPF personnel were injured in a bomb attack by unidentified assailants in Imphal West.
Police said Thokchom Rakesh sustained pellet injuries from a double-barrel gun allegedly fired by members of the Muslim community around 11 pm on Sunday and later died. At least three others are critical.
"The exact cause of the incident, including how and where it originated, has not yet been ascertained, but investigation is underway," a senior police officer said.
As a precaution, Thoubal district magistrate Yumnam Robita imposed prohibitory orders in and around Sangaiyumpham and Khangabok.
The injured CRPF personnel, from E/189 battalion stationed near Singjamei police station, were identified as C Poonambalm (58), Ramesh Kumar (57) and Pabitra Kumar Jena (56). The blast occurred around 11.41 pm on Sunday, about 500 metres south of the police station. They were taken to a private hospital in Imphal; the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained.
The banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) claimed responsibility for the attack on CRPF, saying its People's Liberation Army's "special warfare group" carried out the attack. In a statement, RPF's Bangkim said the outfit opposed "non-local" security forces and central leaders, but was not "anti-social".
