Why are chips packets losing colour in Japan?
India, May 15 -- AJapanese snack giant has announced a radical shift in its branding strategy, but it isn't a marketing gimmick. Starting in late May, 14 of Calbee's flagship products will ditch their signature vibrant packaging for a stark, two-colour black-and-white design.
The move is a strategic 'survival' response to severe global supply chain disruptions. The ongoing conflict in Iran has choked the availability of naphtha, a critical petroleum derivative required to produce the specialised inks used in food packaging. By stripping away the reds and yellows, the brand aims to conserve its dwindling ink reserves and avoid a total production standstill.
Reacting to the same, one user said, "tbh, this is not bad. so much waste used for packaging." Another added, "As a Japanese, I feel that this is a good approach. We don't care about packaging since these snacks are already quite popular."
