India, Aug. 22 -- Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, earning $1.352 billion (approx Rs.12,945 crore) worldwide and overtaking Deadpool & Wolverine's $1.338 billion (approx Rs.12,811 crore) haul from 2024. Released on July 17, the epic adaptation of Homer's Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, has earned $516.3 million (approx Rs.4,944 crore) in the US and Canada and more than $800 million (approx Rs.7,658 crore) internationally. It opened domestically to $123.5 million (approx Rs.1,182 crore) and grossed $263.8 million (approx Rs.2,526 crore) worldwide in its opening weekend, the biggest global debut of Nolan's career. The film crossed the $1 billion mark in its fourth week, becoming the fifth film released in 2026 to reach the milestone. It is currently the second-highest-grossing film of the year, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Its China release on August 14 gave the film another boost, with the movie opening to $36.6 million (approx Rs.350 crore) in the market. The Odyssey is also Nolan's highest-grossing film, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises, which earned about $1.085 billion (approx Rs.10,392 crore). The film is still in theatres, so its final worldwide total remains unknown. Actor Ryan Reynolds, whose Deadpool & Wolverine previously held the R-rated record, congratulated the cast and crew on social media with a joke referencing the Honda Odyssey minivan featured in his film. "Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Odyssey for becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. That is one helluva car," he wrote. The film has also become the highest-grossing movie in the careers of Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. However, it is not Tom Holland's highest-grossing film, with Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and Spider-Man: Brand New Day having earned more worldwide.HTC...
