Sydney Sweeney engaged amid backlash
India, Sept. 17 -- Hollywood actor Sydney Sweeney is reportedly engaged to her boyfriend, businessman and investor Scooter Braun, after more than a year of dating. According to In Touch magazine, an insider has claimed that the couple has taken the major step after the 29-year-old moved in with him last month.
The news comes as Sweeney finds herself facing massive backlash over her new advertisement for sports prediction market company Novig. The ad features Sweeney posing with different sports equipment wearing little to no clothing.
The commercial called out by many social media users for sexualising Sweeney in order to promote a sports trading platform, which is being perceived as the sexualisation of sportswomen by many.
Australian professional tennis player Priscilla Hon shared an Instagram Reel on Wednesday question the ads approval and writing, "Sport should be one of the places that teaches them (women) their bodies are about what they can DO, not how they look."
Speaking to the news platform Nine on Wednesday, the two-time Australian Olympic water polo player Matilda Kearns also criticised the ad, saying, "In 2026 the easiest way to get make money and get attention is through desirability and the sex appeal of women."
Previously, British sprinter Amy Hunt, Chinese-German rugby player Sofie Fella and Australian surfer Felicity Palmateer had also voiced their concerns over the same. HTC...
