India, Aug. 16 -- Singer Sukriti Kakar, who recently got engaged to entrepreneur Shoumik Shetty after five years of dating, says keeping their relationship away from the public eye was a conscious choice. "Our families and some of our closest friends always knew. We like keeping it private and it's permanent... And I believe in nazar a lot," she tells us. The couple were introduced by a mutual friend five years ago and first met at Soho House in Mumbai - incidentally, the same place where Sukriti's twin sister (singer) Prakriti met her husband. Sukriti says Shoumik knew from the start that her bond with her sisters came as a "package deal". "I always told Shoumik, it's always going to be a package deal. me and my sister are actual soulmates," she says. Shoumik also spent months planning the proposal and sought approval from Sukriti's parents and sisters before popping the question in Tuscany. "I did a full round of approval taking from each of them, from her father, from her mother, the sisters. There's a whole hierarchy with all of them," he says. Keeping the plan hidden was the harder part. Sukriti says she had no idea where they were travelling. "He kept confusing me," she recalls. She eventually figured out Tuscany was the destination only after Shoumik lost a bag in Florence and had to share an address for it to be courier-ed....
