The discussion began after Gomez shared a reaction to a recent NBA game, with some fans interpreting part of her message as a subtle jab at Swift, leading to a widespread debate online. Gomez decided to clarify the situation through a series of Instagram Stories, emphasising that her remarks had been taken out of context. She insisted that she would never intentionally insult her friends. Addressing the online chatter, Gomez explained the background of her post: "Woke up and was sent so many texts. I would never insult my friends, nor was it an insult. The comment was a reaction to the first slide on the page. Second, I bet my friends on the game. The friends in the text chain I posted.
