Samantha admits myositis diagnosis changed her 'egoistic' outlook as an actor
India, June 17 -- A
ctor Samantha recently opened up on her complicated relationship with fame, saying a diagnosis of her autoimmune disorder myositis in 2022 changed her outlook on life and career.
The actor reflected on how sudden fame shaped her early years in the industry. She told Gulte, "It was shocking to me that a girl from nowhere, like from a small town, experienced stardom and people love me and are looking forward to watching my films. In a year, I remember I made five movies back-to-back, and all of them were hits, so people thought I had a golden leg, and I believed that I should live up to the expectations."
The 39-year-old admitted she became "addicted to the game of stardom", constantly chasing the next milestone in her career. "I think I was also young and very keen to run the race," she said. It was her diagnosis with myositis, which she publicly revealed in October 2022, that eventually forced her to pause and reassess her life.
She added, "When I had to take that break, I was hustling the most. I wanted to do many films and keep doing it. I never thought there would be a retirement. You become so egoistic as an actor that you refuse to see there is an end. But after my break, I realised there is no race. You realise it is all a hallucination. Now I'm not running any race and I don't see any finish line."
