Ohh My Dog pushed to avert clash and avoid OMG 2 mistake, says Amit Rai
India, July 28 -- Actor Pankaj Tripathi's upcoming film Ohh My Dog, which was scheduled to release on July 31, has been postponed by a week and will now hit theatres on August 7.
Explaining the reason behind the decision, director Amit Rai told Screen, "We made a practical decision because the screens will get occupied with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Already The Odyssey has taken over the theatres, and Dhamaal 4 is also screening in two shows. So, our base is a family audience and it will be scattered among all these films. A big chunk will go to watch Spider-Man. There won't even be a chance of increasing the number of screens."
Rai said he did not want to repeat the experience of OMG 2, which released alongside Gadar 2 in 2023, with the latter emerging as the bigger success. "I didn't want that positive response to stay limited to close friends. It has to go to people and become big," he said.
The director added that early screenings of the upcoming film in Jaipur, Lucknow and Kolkata received an encouraging response. "The reactions are very positive, and that made me take the decision overnight," he added.'
