India, July 7 -- A ctor Mohanlal has declared to the Kerala Forest Department that he possesses 10 elephant tusks and 13 ivory idols, officials at the Malayattoor Divisional Forest Office said on Monday. The declaration comes as the 66-year-old actor continues to face trial in a case related to the alleged illegal possession of wildlife articles. Officials said the declaration was made under the department's amnesty scheme, which allows individuals to declare unregistered wildlife articles to avoid legal action. He claimed that most of the tusks were inherited or received as gifts. The case dates back to 2011, when an Income Tax Department raid at the actor's residences reportedly led to the recovery of elephant tusks and ivory idols. The items were seized under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, which prohibits possession of ivory without government certification. The Forest Department subsequently registered a case against Mohanlal for allegedly possessing two pairs of elephant tusks without valid permission. Although the Kerala government later sought to withdraw the case, the trial court rejected the move and the Kerala HC upheld that decision.
