Met Gala 2027 turns to poetry in everyday fashion after Galliano show dropped
India, Nov. 7 -- The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, has announced extraORDINARY: Fashion and the Poetics of the Everyday as the theme for its 2027 exhibition and Met Gala. Curated by Andrew Bolton, it explores how designers turn everyday clothing and discarded materials into high fashion.
Featured works include designs by Virgil Abloh, Gianfranco Ferre, Jonathan Anderson, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Maison Margiela and Japanese label Undercover.
The announcement follows the dropping of British designer John Galliano's planned retrospective amid criticism over his past antisemitic and racist remarks.
The theme has revived discussion around Indian model Bhavitha Mandava's 2026 Chanel Met Gala look. Her seemingly casual jeans-and-half-zip outfit used trompe-l'oeil craftsmanship, prompting comparisons with the new theme.
The Met Gala is on May 3, 2027. The exhibition runs from May 9 to January 9, 2028. The dress code is yet to be announced.htc...
