Long-lost The Jungle Book art pieces sell for Rs.1.60 crore
India, March 11 -- Two long-lost watercolour paintings created for Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book have sold at a London auction for a combined £130,000 (approx. Rs.1.60 crore). The artworks, discovered hanging in a private home, were painted by British twin illustrators Edward Detmold and Charles Maurice Detmold as part of a 16-illustration portfolio commissioned by Macmillan & Co. in the early 1900s. One painting showing Mowgli with Bagheera sold for £93,840 (approx. Rs.1.15 crore), while The Cold Lairs, depicting the monkeys of the Bandar-log, fetched £36,640 (approx. Rs.45 lakh). HTC...
