India, June 13 -- T he Indian sporting fraternity was left shocked on Friday following the sudden death of celebrated shooter and coach Jaspal Rana at 49. A Padma Shri awardee and three-time Asian Games gold medallist, Rana reportedly fell ill in Munich, Germany, where he had accompanied the Indian team for the ISSF World Cup. He was taken to a hospital in Delhi upon landing but succumbed to cardiac complications. Starting as one of India's most accomplished shooters, Rana later emerged as one of the country's most influential coaches, playing a key role in the rise of Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and several other top pistol shooters. Tributes poured in from across the sporting world. Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra called it a "huge loss" for Indian shooting, while former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan remembered Rana as a champion, mentor and inspiration....
