How to DIY a Tiranga dish at home
India, Aug. 15 -- Independence Day is the perfect time to add colour and creativity to your kitchen. From tiranga idlis, puris and pulao to sandwiches and snacks, home chefs and content creators are giving classic dishes a festive twist. In 2026, the trend is all about using natural ingredients for colour while turning them into global favourites. Here's how to recreate these vibrant dishes at home.
For saffron: Use carrot puree, saffron (kesar) bloomed in warm milk, or a tomato-Kashmiri chilli paste for a golden-orange hue. Fruits like papaya, mango and orange also work well.
For white: Opt for Basmati rice, hung curd, paneer, idlis or white bread. Banana, melon, dragon fruit, pear and guava are great fruit options.
For green: Blanch the spinach for 60 seconds, then plunge it into ice water before blending with mint and coriander. Kiwi, cucumber, avocado and matcha can also add a vibrant green.
