wyneth Paltrow recently added a desi twist to her breakfast routine, with the American actor-businesswoman sharing a video of herself on Saturday making besan chilla as part of her #boyfriendbreakfast series. In the recurring series, the 53-year-old offers followers a glimpse into the breakfasts she makes at home, often featuring her own twists on familiar dishes. Her recent video features a dish she described as "savoury Indian chilla pancakes", and the video has clocked over 2.5 million views.
Paltrow's batter stayed fairly close to the classic, made with besan (gram flour), spices, onions, tomatoes and ginger. It was her choice of accompaniments, however, that took the breakfast in a decidedly unexpected direction. She served the chillas with eggs topped with green mint chutney, alongside leftover short ribs from the previous night's dinner.
The combination caught the attention of Indian food lovers online. While some welcomed the sight of a familiar desi staple on Paltrow's breakfast table, others were more sceptical. The reactions also tapped into a long-running debate around how Indian food and culture are often embraced in the West without always acknowledging their origins.
