India, July 27 -- Idli is comfort food for many and is also easy to whip up. But don't mistake its simplicity for monotony. Usually accompanied with - sambar and chutney - there are several types of idlis that are enjoyed in South India. In fact, the Kancheepuram idli or Koil (temple) idli is on a path to get a GI tag. According to a report by The Hindu, the Tamil Nadu Food Processing and Agri Export Promotion Corporation (TNAPEx) has filed an application seeking a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for this famous idli, which is one of the offerings at the Sri Varadharaja Perumal temple.
