give me my Eidi: Sana makbul recalls childhood Eid memories
India, March 20 -- For actor Sana Makbul, Eid al-Fitr has always meant warmth, gratitude, and the simple joy of being surrounded by loved ones. "I have grown up knowing this is our festival, and for me, it has always been delightful, almost like there's a big feast happening around me," she shares, recalling celebrations rooted in family and tradition.
This year, however, the 32-year-old will be away from home due to work commitments, missing out on the familiar comfort of celebrating with her family.
The spirit of Eid, she says, begins long before the day itself, unfolding through the sacred month of Ramzan. Along with the festive anticipation, she deeply values the discipline the month brings. "The whole routine changes. You wake up around 4 or 4.30am for sehri and then break your fast in the evening. It teaches you discipline, focus, and determination." Beyond rituals, it is also a time of personal reflection and spiritual grounding. "I make a conscious effort to be more regular with my prayers during this time. It's not for anybody else, but for myself," she adds.
Her fondest childhood memories of Eid include getting dressed up and collecting Eidi: "That's the one day I would haq se say, 'Give me my Eidi'." Her first roza (fast) at 12 or 13 felt like an achievement, celebrated with a special feast at home. Now, she gives Eidi and believes in being a giver in life, saying, "It's a gift of love. Just keep doing good." When it comes to festive indulgences: "Eid ke waqt banne sheer khurma ka sawad hi alag hota hai, no comparison," she says with a smile....
