India, July 30 -- D espite delivering one of the year's biggest global music comebacks, BTS has decided to stay out of the 2027 Grammy Awards race over the Recording Academy's new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category. Announcing the move on Stories on Wednesday, the group said, "We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year. We hope music can be heard and loved as music itself, rather than being divided by region or language." The Recording Academy introduced the category in June as one of five additions to the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027. It will recognise K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and other Asian pop performances featuring the meaningful use of an Asian language. The category has, however, drawn criticism for potentially placing Asian artistes in a separate regional bracket instead of giving them equal space in established pop categories. BTS previously earned three consecutive nominations in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for Dynamite, Butter and the Coldplay collaboration My Universe.
