Bieber's Coachella gig gets support from Diplo, mixed reactions from fans
India, April 15 -- Pop star Justin Bieber made headlines with his recent performance at Coachella 2026, held on April 11 in California. Marking his return to the festival after a long hiatus, and following his battle with ramsay hunt syndrome, he delivered a set that blended fresh tracks from his Swag album with hits like Sorry and Baby.
Despite pulling one of the largest crowds in the festival's history, attendees noted that Bieber appeared to perform without a formal setlist. Instead, he took an unconventional route, bringing his laptop on stage and performing through YouTube music videos.
His approach has sparked backlash online, with critics calling the set "lazy," pointing to the minimal stage design, absence of backup dancers, and a moment where the 33-year-old remained seated for nearly 30 minutes mid-performance. Yet, commercially, the set proved massive, reportedly earning over $10 million (approx. Rs.93 crore).
However, DJ and music producer Diplo offered a different take. "I was surprised he even went (back) to the classics, but the way he played it was amazing," he told PEOPLE. Calling the performance "legendary," Diplo added that it felt intimate, "like being at a party with him", and argued that audiences may have misunderstood its intent.
