India, June 18 -- Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) has ordered the deportation of Abjeet Singh Kingra, an Indian national convicted of a shooting and arson attack on singer AP Dhillon's home in British Columbia on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. IRB member Azeem Lalji issued the order after finding that Kingra had fired 14 rounds into Dhillon's Colwood home and set his vehicles ablaze on September 2, 2024. Kingra had entered Canada on a student visa that later expired. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in prison in 2025. At his deportation hearing, he testified that a co-worker at a Winnipeg moving company recruited him for CAD $4,000 (approx Rs.2.7 lakh) to carry out the attack. He claimed he was unaware that he was acting on behalf of the Bishnoi gang and he only took the job to support his family financially. Within hours of the attack, the gang posted footage online that Kingra had recorded himself, claiming responsibility. The gang targeted Dhillon over his decision to feature actor Salman Khan, a longstanding Bishnoi target, in one of his music videos. Lalji acknowledged the attack was not a direct extortion attempt but said it fit within the gang's broader pattern of violence against the Indian diaspora in Canada. The federal government designated the Bishnoi gang a terrorist entity last year. Kingra also told the hearing that the gang has since threatened to kill him should he be returned to India. The board proceeded with the deportation order regardless. Kingra additionally faces trial over a separate shooting and arson incident at a Surrey, British Columbia property. HTC...
