n the final leg of his five-nation tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian PM Giorgia Meloni over dinner in Rome on Tuesday. Soon after, Meloni shared a video thanking Modi for gifting her a packet of Melody toffees, instantly sending social media into a frenzy.
The gesture was widely seen as a nod to the internet's viral "Melodi" memes and fan edits inspired by the leaders' interactions since the 2023 G20 Summit in New Delhi.
Speaking to Times Now, Parle Products Vice President Mayank Shah said the video was "breaking the internet", adding that Modi and Meloni's "great chemistry" had already made "Melodi" a hugely popular meme online.
The frenzy quickly translated into a real-world rush too, with several users claiming Melody toffees had sold out on quick-commerce apps within hours of the video surfacing. According to Google Trends, searches for "melody chocolate" surged by 1250%, while "Parle Melody" and "Melody toffee" also saw sharp spikes online.
