A WIN ETCHED IN HISTORY: Sneh Rana on India's Lord's triumph
India, July 16 -- No great cricketing story is complete without the mention of London's iconic Lord's cricket ground. Last week, the 142-year-old Home of Cricket added another unforgettable chapter as it hosted its first-ever women's Test between England and India. Despite walking in as underdogs, India delivered a performance to remember, defeating England by 270 runs and becoming the first women's team to claim Test glory at the iconic venue.
Speaking about the historic win, all-rounder Sneh Rana, who took six wickets, shares, "This will inspire generations towards women's cricket, and Test cricket." She adds, "Yeh ek aisi jeet hai jo itihaas ke pannon mein darj ho gayi hai... Jab bhi Lord's mein 'first team to win women's Test' likha jayega, toh bold aur capital mein wahaan 'INDIA' aayega. Isse zyada garv ki baat aur kya ho sakti hai."
The 32-year-old still remembers her first steps at Lord's. "When we walked in as the Indian team, it felt different... Ek khayal aaya dimaag mein, after 142 years, we finally had the chance to play a women's Test here. Now, we had to make it count and create history."
The team meeting was not about pressure or complex plans. "We didn't talk about strategies or technical details. We spoke about the privilege of being here. Of all the Indian women cricketers who came before us, we were the lucky ones. The message was simple: go out, enjoy these five days, and make the most out of it." Five days later, India had turned that dream into history.
A dominant victory was capped by another historic first; bowler Kranti Gaud's five-wicket haul and batter Yastika Bhatia's century became the first women cricketers to be etched on the Lord's honours board. "When we returned to the dressing room, the first thing we did was look at the honours board," she recalls, adding, "Then (former cricketer) Sachin Tendulkar, who was at the ground, came over to congratulate us. We were just trying to soak it all in."...
