'I can do one more murder if they promise to make another film'
India, Oct. 10 -- For Ishita Dutta Sheth, Drishyam: The Conclusion closes a chapter that began with her Hindi film debut 12 years ago. She first played Anju Salgaonkar, whose act of self-defence sets Vijay Salgaonkar's cover-up in motion. "It was my first film, and meri pehchaan comes from this film," she tells us. The response to the third and final instalment has caught her off guard: "We were surprised. Itna zyada intezar tha logo ko; it was a huge surprise for all of us."
The story may be over, but October 2 remains an event in her inbox. "Every year on October 2, I get flooded with messages. I have friends abroad who might forget my birthday, but they definitely message me saying, 'Went to Satsang, ate pav bhaji, watched a movie, then took a bus.' That dialogue has become an absolute rage," she says, laughing at the meme.
As for whether the franchise will continue, Dutta reveals, "When I was told this was the conclusion, I said, 'Make another one, I'll commit another murder!'
Her bond with her screen father Ajay Devgn extends beyond the films. "He's more than a co-star; our families bond beautifully. Strangely, I keep landing projects with him unknowingly, not just Drishyam, but De De Pyaar De 2 (2025) as well."
Returning as his daughter, however, required preparation after she learnt the shoot was four months away. She recalls, "I was seven months pregnant when shooting for De De Pyaar De 2, and the team told me we'd shoot for Drishyam 3 in four months. I thought, 'From which angle will I look like Ajay sir's daughter now?' I had to start prepping post-delivery to get back in shape."
On set, he looked out for her too: "I remember craving pani-puri in Chandigarh; the team warned me against eating it there, so Ajay sir arranged for the best from a trusted shop."...
