Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- A baby elephant with a gunshot wound to its front right leg was treated at the Kalawewa National Park yesterday.
The three-year-old calf had been injured a few days prior by a trap gun.
The treatment was administered by a veterinary team led by wildlife veterinarian Udeshika Madhuwanthi of the Anuradhapura Wildlife Health Management Unit, along with officials from the Galkiriyagama Wildlife Range Office.
According to wildlife officials, the elephant's health is stable.
They believe the calf will make a full recovery after a few more rounds of treatment.
