Sri Lanka, Oct. 14 -- The President of the Lanka Fruit & Vegetable Producers, Processors and Exporters Association Suranga Prithilal Pieris, stated that wholesale fruit prices have increased significantly these days.
He mentioned that the wholesale price per kg for several fruits is as follows:
Mango (common variety): Rs. 400 to Rs. 500
Alphonso Mango: Rs. 1,000
Wood Apple: Rs. 280 to Rs. 300
Bael Fruit (Beli): Rs. 500 to Rs. 600
Passion Fruit: Rs. 400
Avocado: Rs. 500 to Rs. 600
The President stated that the increase in fruit prices is due to the high costs incurred by farmers for cultivation and the high transportation costs.
He added that, as a result, their sales volume has decreased.
