Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- An investigation started into the disappearance of Rs. 2.1 million, revealed during the annual audit of the Weligama Main Post Office, sources state.

Weligama Main Post Office performs a great service to the public, providing various services including local and foreign mail exchange, cargo transport, payment of traffic fines, elderly allowances, various stamp facilities, and money transfers.

17 sub-post offices spread across rural areas operate under this main post office to further facilitate these services.

Sources state that the daily income of this entire post office system exceeds Rs. 3 to 4 million.
