Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- Veteran journalist Daya Lankapura has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Right to Information Commission. He is scheduled to assume duties tomorrow (11).

Lankapura is a graduate of Colombo University and has been a professional journalist for over six decades.

He is currently the news editor of the 'Rathu Ira' newspaper.

He began his career as a staff journalist at the 'Aththa' newspaper and went on to hold top positions at several other publications, including the 'Divaina' newspaper.

Lankapura is also a founding member of the Free Media Movement and an active figure in Sri Lanka's media organisations.
