Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- Survivors and families of those affected by the 1989 Valvettithurai massacre have lodged an official claim with the Sri Lankan Office for Reparations, demanding USD15 million (approximately LKR 4.5 billion) in compensation.
The claim addresses the loss of life and property damage allegedly caused by the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) over 36 years ago.
The submission was publicly announced on Sunday (19) during a press conference at the Vadamarachchi Press Club in Jaffna, where victims' relatives and survivors gathered to remember those who died by lighting lamps and offering flowers.
