Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- Farmers in the Uva Province are facing difficulties selling their Yala season potato harvest.
They say traders are not buying their produce due to the lower prices of imported potatoes in the market.
While the Yala season potato harvest is being brought to the market in Welimada, Uva Paranagama, Boralanda, and Keppetipola, a large supply of imported potatoes has been stockpiled in shops across the country.
A kilo of imported potatoes is sold for between Rs. 200 and 220, whereas a kilo of local potatoes is sold for between Rs. 380 and 400 in the retail market.
