Sri Lanka, Feb. 25 -- For Sri Lanka's export-driven economy, yesterday (24) marked a significant shift in trade relations with the United States.
Following a ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States invalidating previous "National Security" tariffs, the administration of Donald Trump has moved swiftly to introduce an alternative measure under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.
Under a new Presidential Proclamation, a 10% ad valorem duty has been imposed on imports from every country for a period of 150 days.
While this creates a "level playing field" compared to earlier country-specific penalties, Sri Lankan manufacturers now face renewed competitive pressures in a globally synchronized tariff environment.
