Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- The Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) stated that the token strike carried out by university lecturers today was 100% successful.
FUTA Chairman, Professor Prageeth Weerathunga, noted that the level of success seen today exceeded expectations for the trade union action.
Parallel to the token strike, protests were held at several universities across the island.
"All university lecturers joined this strike today. The strike is a hundred percent successful. However, we do not wish to imply that we have crippled the university system. This action represents the deep frustration felt by the university lecturers," he said.
