Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- Three spill gates of the Ulhitiya Rathkinda Reservoir were opened this afternoon, according to the Engineer in Charge of Mahaweli C Zone, Tissa Rajaratne.
One gate was opened by 0.3 metres, while the other two were opened by 0.2 metres.
Rajaratne said the spill gates were opened to lower the water level for essential maintenance work, as the release of irrigation water for the 2025 Yala season has now concluded.
He added that the opening of the gates will not affect the Girandurukotte Rathkinda Road, but the public is advised to be vigilant.
