Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- The United Kingdom and Sri Lanka have signed a new bilateral debt agreement aimed at restoring Sri Lanka's debt sustainability and supporting its economic recovery.
The agreement was signed today (22) at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development by British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick and Sri Lanka's Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma.
The bilateral agreement implements the terms of the debt restructuring agreement that was reached in June 2024 between Sri Lanka and an Official Creditor Committee, which was co-chaired by France, India, and Japan, and included the UK and other Paris Club creditors.
