Sri Lanka, July 28 -- Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena ordered the remand of Jayantha Bandara Athukorala from Kegalle and Suduhakuruge Lionel Ranasinghe from Thalawathugoda until August 5 today.

The two persons were remanded over an attempt to defraud money by falsely claiming an antique metal Hanuman statue embedded with gems and gold was being sold to India.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed court that investigations began following a complaint lodged by Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Sunil Watagala alleging that the suspects carried out this fraud by involving his name.
