Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- Two police sergeants from the Tihagoda Police Station in Matara have been suspended from duty for taking a cigarette from a civilian.
According to Police, they have been suspended after finding that one sergeant allegedly took and smoked a cigarette from a civilian who came to give cigarettes to a person held in a police cell.
The other sergeant was suspended for failing to prevent the act.
The incident occurred on September 17, when a friend of a 25-year-old suspect being held for assault came to the station to provide him with cigarettes.
The matter came to light when Matara Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chandana Wijesekera was informed of the incident.
