Sri Lanka, March 4 -- A sudden fire broke out at an electricity transformer near the Kalutara District Secretariat this morning (04), causing significant disruptions to power supplies and vehicle movements in the area.

The entire staff of the District Secretariat premises was evacuated as a safety measure when the transformer began burning around 9:30 AM.

South Kalutara Police and the Kalutara Municipal Council Fire Unit worked together to extinguish the flames following a strenuous effort.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) disconnected power to several locations in Kalutara town, including the District Secretariat, as a result of the incident.
