Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 -- Inspector General of Police (IGP), Priyantha Weerasooriya, has introduced a new WhatsApp number to allow the public to report crimes and other issues directly to him.

The new hotline, 071 - 8598888, will be active from today (13). The public can use this number to send text messages, videos, and photos directly to the IGP. However, it cannot be used for phone calls.

The police have also announced that police officers can use the same number to report their own issues and information.
