Tension erupts over waste dumping at Homagama quarry
Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- A tense situation arose between the Vice Chairman of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha, residents, and individuals engaged in filling an abandoned quarry in the Kapurugoda Road area of Panagoda, Homagama, over a severe foul odour and wastewater flowing near lands due to dumping waste into the quarry for several years.
A conflict was seen between the Vice Chairman of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha, Aruna Bamunuarachchi, and residents.
Residents stated that major issues arose as white clay-mixed soil from a tile factory, as well as various waste and garbage removed from various other institutions, were brought and dumped into this quarry.
