Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- A special unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended the alleged gunman in assassination of former Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha member Shantha Mudunkotuwa, who was fatally shot on August 12 along the Meegoda-Atigala Road.

The suspect was taken into custody during an operation carried out in the Southern Province.

Interrogations have revealed that he had been operating as a contract killer for Lalith Kannangara, alias "Bus Lalith" - a powerful underworld figure and alleged drug trafficker currently residing in Dubai.

Police say the arrested individual is a former member of the Sri Lanka Army and has allegedly carried out several shootings in Homagama and surrounding areas on Lalith Kannangara'...
