Sri Lanka, Oct. 11 -- The Supreme Court yesterday (October 10) ruled to cancel the licence of a lawyer residing in the Kandy area after finding him guilty of breaching legal professional ethics.
The judgement was delivered by Supreme Court Judge Shiran Gunaratne, with the concurrence of Justices Mahinda Samayawardana and Priyantha Fernando, following the hearing of a petition filed by Major (Rtd) W. W. S. L. S. Palipana.
The complainant stated that he had retained the defendant lawyer in March 2006 and February 2007 to handle a legal matter.
The lawyer had requested Rs.100,000 for the service and received an advance payment of Rs.50,000 from the complainant.
