Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- Leader of the New People's Front Sugeeshwara Bandara, who is currently in remand custody, was admitted to the Prison Hospital yesterday afternoon (21) following a sudden illness.

Bandara, who is being held at the New Magazine Prison, was hospitalised after a blood vessel in his leg burst due to a varicose veins condition.

In view of his medical condition, his lawyers had previously filed a motion before the Fort Magistrate's Court seeking an order directing the Commissioner General of Prisons to refer Bandara for immediate medical treatment.
