Sri Lanka, Oct. 25 -- Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have raided and sealed a warehouse in the Hiripitiya area of Kurunegala that was storing nearly 42 metric tons of insect-damaged grain.
PHIs reported that the warehouse contained 27,142 kilogrammes of maize, 9,193 kilogrammes of soya beans, 3,620 kilogrammes of rice, and 2,320 kilogrammes of green gram.
After samples were sent to the Government Analyst and confirmed to be damaged by insects, the case was presented to the Kurunegala Additional Magistrate.
The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined Rs. 50,000.
The Magistrate also ordered the destruction of the entire stock of 42,275 kilogrammes of grain, which was deemed unfit for human consumption.
