Sri Lanka welcomes Indian Supreme Court observations on Kachchatheevu and Maritime Boundary
Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar has welcomed observations made by the Supreme Court of India regarding Kachchatheevu island and the international maritime boundary line (IMBL) between Sri Lanka and India, emphasizing the need to inform Tamil Nadu fishermen against entering Sri Lankan territorial waters.
During the hearing of petitions requesting the retrieval of Kachchatheevu island from Sri Lanka, an Indian Supreme Court bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna highlighted the necessity of raising awareness among Tamil Nadu fishermen to prevent them from crossing the IMBL into Sri Lankan waters.
