Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- Sri Lanka has called for urgent global action on climate change and greater climate justice, while reiterating its support for Palestinian self-determination and a two-state solution, in remarks delivered by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Addressing the General Debate, Herath highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable countries that have contributed least to global emissions.

Referring to the recent Himalayan floods affecting Nepal and China, he said such disasters demonstrate the "enormous human and economic costs of climate change."
