Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka crossed the 1.7 million threshold for the year, supported by over 23,000 visitors arriving during the first four days of October.

Total cumulative arrivals reached 1,717,028 following 23,349 tourist entries between 1 and 4 October, averaging 5,837 visitors daily.

Overall arrivals remain nearly 2% behind the pace set during the corresponding period in 2025, with early October figures reflecting a 5.5% year-on-year decline.

India maintained its position as the primary source market, supplying 10,062 visitors or 43% of arrivals during the opening four days of the month.

China followed with 2,128 tourists, while Australia contributed 1,266 arrivals.
