Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- The government is considering an increase to the fees for temporary driving licences issued to tourists. This comes as the Transport Minister, Bimal Rathnayake, acknowledged that the current rate is too low.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister Rathnayake confirmed that the government plans to propose a fee increase to the Cabinet, which, if approved, would be enacted via a new gazette notification.
He also clarified that the temporary licences, which are available at Katunayake Airport and the Department of Motor Traffic Office in Werahera, are only valid for light vehicles.
