Sri Lanka, Feb. 16 -- Twenty-five Indian fishermen and two of their vessels were detained by the Sri Lanka Navy for engaging in illegal fishing activities within the country's maritime boundaries.
The Northern Naval Command conducted a special operation from last night (15) until early this morning in the local waters off Kankesanthurai, Jaffna, resulting in these apprehensions. The Navy maintains constant surveillance to prevent foreign vessels from entering local waters in violation of international maritime laws.
The detained fishermen and their vessels are to be handed over to the Myladi Fisheries Inspector's Office in Jaffna for further legal action.
