Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- Sri Lanka is heading towards a 'no-smokers zone' due to a significant decline in smoking among young people, according to the Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC).

ADIC Executive Director Sampath De Saram said there are only 1.5 million smokers in the country, and the leading age group for smokers is 40+.

This is a stark contrast to previous generations, where smoking was a popular habit.

The decline is attributed to young people in the 15 to 25 age bracket adopting healthier habits such as regular gym use and healthy eating.

This generation is increasingly aware of how smoking can negatively impact their health and physical appearance.
